NovaBond high strength bonding tapes produce the strongest of bonds but glass can be a particularly difficult surface to bond to as it is very flat and smooth. Impurities and moisture can be trapped in the fine surface pores, so for this reason we recommend that you prime the surface with NovaBond Silane Glass Primer.
How it works…..
NovaBond Silane Glass Primer works by chemically altering the surface of the glass, increasing the surface energy and making it more receptive to adhesive bonding. No specialist equipment is required for application and it’s fast acting and easy to use…….plus the resultant bond can be up to 50% stronger.
The primer is silane-based and specifically formulated for the NovaBond SignFix range of high strength bonding tapes, especially NovaBond XS100C. It is, however, compatible with most advanced acrylic adhesives used on glass, including coloured, textured or frosted surfaces.
How to apply NovaBond Silane Glass Primer
If bonding to glass at temperatures below 10°C, then there is a risk of condensation forming on the surface which will prevent bonding. If this is the case, apply gentle heat from a hot air gun or hair dryer in order to raise the surface temperature to above 10°C taking care not to overheat and crack the glass.
Preparation:
Remove dirt, dust, excessive grease, oils or other contaminants with NovaBond Surface Cleaner, following the instructions.
