International studies have repeatedly proven that copper has antiviral, antibacterial and fungicidal properties, so that it shortens the half-life of viruses, bacteria and fungi and some hospitals use door handles made of solid copper. A study in 2015 from The University of Southampton, commissioned by the US authorities, showed that corona viruses are also inactivated by copper in a very short time. Lead researcher Dr Sarah Warnes said: ‘Human coronavirus, which also has ancestral links with bat-like viruses responsible for SARS and MERS, was found to be permanently and rapidly deactivated upon contact with copper. What’s more, the viral genome and structure of the viral particles were destroyed, so nothing remained that could pass on an infection. With the lack of antiviral treatments, copper offers a measure that can help reduce the risk of these infections spreading.’ Independent laboratory research has shown that Shieldex® Copper-Tape, through a unique metallisation process, has an average 7 times higher release of copper ions compared to solid copper.

Application

Shieldex® Copper Tape from Innova Solutions is used on all smooth and metallic surfaces. Its use on other textiles is not recommended.

1. When sticking the tape on, make sure that the substrate is dry, free of oil, grease, dust and dirt.Cleaning withNovaBond Surface Cleaner on a lint-free cloth is recommended.
2. Removewhite paper liner.
3. Position the sticker in the middle of thehandle, guide it evenly around thecircumference so that the leading and trailing edges meet or overlap on the underside. Then smooth the textile with your fingers from the centre outwards to expel trapped air bubbles. The cloth carrier will allow it to conform to irregular shapes.

Safety Instructions

Shieldex® Copper Tape is electroplated with pure copper. Various international studies have shown a significant reduction in the survival time of viruses, bacteria and fungi on copper surfaces. However, since copper tape has a significantly increased copper ion release compared to pure copper, permanent contact with the skin is not recommended.

This product serves as a supplementary measure and does not replace hygiene measures such as regular & thorough hand washing or hand disinfection.

• do not swallow, do not put in mouth
• copper can cause allergic reactions
• colour change is normal (oxidation)

Care

Regularly remove superficial dirt from the copper tape with a soft brush. In the case of very heavy soiling we recommend replacing with a fresh piece of Shieldex® Copper Tape to maintain optimum effectiveness.  The oxidation of copper is a natural process.
